Extended Response-Pursuit Practices in L2 Listening-Speaking Classroom Interaction
(Eğitim Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2026-08-18) Tarık Yütük; Yabancı Diller Eğitimi
Student participation in L2 classroom interaction is paramount in foreign/second language learning; however, teachers often encounter silence after posing interrogatives. In this regard, though a substantial body of research has documented response-pursuit practices across diverse pedagogical and non-pedagogical settings, a gap remains in how these practices are orchestrated in extended sequences. Addressing this gap, this study documents how and to what extent extended response-pursuit practices mobilise student responses in face-to-face L2 English preparatory listening-speaking classroom, which has been underexamined from a micro-analytic perspective. Drawing on Multimodal Conversation Analysis, this study analyses 41 hours of video-recorded L2 English listening-speaking classroom interaction in higher education in Türkiye. The findings are presented within Extension x Contingency framework in accordance with extended response-pursuit practices where the teacher employs at least two different response-pursuit practices after his initial inquiry fails to elicit a student response (Yütük & Can Daşkın, in production). The analyses reveal that student responses are successfully mobilised across seven response-pursuit practices which have been classified as the resolution points at which student responses are secured: (i) contextualisation, (ii) modelling, (iii) individual nomination, (iv) topic shading, (v) hinting, (vi) building on students’ candidate responses, and (vii) use of classroom artifacts. The study also showcases the contingencies of such practices through the analysis of deviant cases that illuminate the conditions necessary for pursuing student responses: (i) lack of recall, (ii) time pressure, and (iii) epistemic incongruence. This study advances understanding of response-pursuit practices and provides implications for Classroom Interactional Competence and L2 teacher education.

Bilateral Foreign Direct Investment Flows: The Role of Institutional and Financial Distance
(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) Pelin TAMKOÇ TÜRKOĞLU; İktisat
This thesis empirically examines the impact of financial and institutional distance on bilateral foreign direct investment (FDI) flows between countries between 2000 and 2020. To this end, 15 upper-middle-income countries, 12 lower-middle-income countries, and 37 OECD countries are analyzed within a gravity model framework using OLS, Fixed Effects (FE), and Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) methods. This thesis comprehensively explores the effect of financial and institutional similarities on FDI by employing multidimensional financial distance indicators such as banking system depth, stock market capitalization, financial development, financial institutions, financial markets, and financial inclusion for countries at different stages of development. Empirical findings suggest that the impact of financial distance on FDI is both multidimensional and heterogeneous across country groups. For the full sample of middle-income countries, the results indicate that not all dimensions of financial distance similarly affect FDI. While banking-sector distance does not significantly affect FDI, stock market capitalization distance has a weak positive effect on FDI. However, overall financial development, financial institutions, and financial market distances consistently harm FDI. The upper-middle-income country results largely mirror the full sample. Contrarily, lower-middle-income countries have a different pattern, where financial distance often acts as an investment opportunity rather than a barrier. In these countries, banking-sector gaps play a more significant role. For OECD countries, there is strong evidence supporting the similarity hypothesis. In the OECD, almost all financial distance indicators are negatively related to FDI. In the context of institutional distance, the results present an imprecise pattern across country groups.

(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) ÇİFTÇİ MELODİ; Aile ve Tüketici Bilimleri
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between older adults’ acceptance and use behaviors of mobile health technologies and their healthy lifestyle awareness. The study was conducted within the framework of the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The population of the study consisted of individuals aged 50 and above living in Hatay, Türkiye, while the sample comprised 400 participants reached through snowball sampling. Data were collected using the Personal and Demographic Information Form, the Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Scale, and the Mobile Health Technology Acceptance and Use Scale based on the UTAUT2 model. Descriptive statistics, reliability analyses, normality tests, Mann–Whitney U tests, Kruskal–Wallis tests, and Spearman correlation analyses were employed in the data analysis process. The findings revealed that participants generally had high levels of healthy lifestyle awareness, whereas their use of mobile health technologies for health-related purposes remained limited. Although most participants owned mobile devices, the regular use of applications related to exercise monitoring, nutrition management, medication reminders, and sleep tracking was found to be relatively low. A positive and statistically significant, yet weak, relationship was identified between healthy lifestyle awareness and the acceptance and use of mobile health technologies. Furthermore, women demonstrated higher levels of healthy lifestyle awareness than men, technology acceptance decreased with advancing age, and both healthy lifestyle awareness and technology acceptance increased as educational level rose. Overall, the study indicates that the integration of older adults into digital health systems cannot be explained solely by technological access. Instead, digital health literacy, educational background, social support, and age-friendly design characteristics play significant roles in the acceptance and use of mobile health technologies among older adults.

KİŞİLİK ÖZELLİKLERİ VE PSİKOPATOLOJİK BELİRTİLER ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİLERİN DUYGULANIM DEĞERLEME MODELİ ÇERÇEVESİNDE İNCELENMESİ
(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) Gizem Tekercioğlu; Psikoloji
Psychological symptoms are important indicators of mental health that negatively affect individuals’ quality of life. Although the relationship between personality traits and these symptoms is well established, the underlying cognitive and emotional processes have not yet been fully clarified. Aim of this study is to examine the mediating roles of the affect valuation model and cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the relationship between personality traits and psychological symptoms. The sample consisted of 746 participants aged 18 to 65 (M = 40.17, SD = 12.60), including 451 females (60.5%) and 295 males (39.5%). Data were collected online using the Demographic Information Form, the Big Five Inventory, the Emotion Regulation Skills Scale, the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and the Brief Symptom Inventory. The findings indicated that neuroticism was positively associated with all types of psychological symptoms, whereas extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience were negatively associated. Actual-ideal affect discrepancy was positively related to all psychological symptoms. Additionally, participants reporting high levels of symptoms were reported significantly greater actual-ideal emotion discrepancies than participants reporting low levels of symptoms. Dysfunctional emotion regulation strategies showed strong positive associations with psychological symptoms, while functional strategies were also positively associated, contrary to expectations. Serial mediation analyses revealed that actual-ideal affect discrepancy and cognitive emotion regulation strategies had significant serial mediating effects for all personality traits. Full mediation was found for extraversion in the dysfunctional strategies model. It was observed that women scored higher on neuroticism, rumination, actual-ideal emotion discrepancy, and psychological symptom levels. Younger adults exhibited higher levels of psychological symptoms and affect discrepancy, whereas older adults reported greater use of functional strategies. The findings obtained from study were discussed within the context of literature; limitations of the research, significance of its results, suggestions for future studies, and its potential contributions to clinical practice were presented.

Mahrum Edilmiş Yas: Kürtaj Sonrası Kayıp Sürecinin Anlamlandırılması
(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026-07-30) Ayşenur AYANOĞLU SOBAY; Psikoloji
The aim of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of how women experience the grieving process following abortion, the factors that shape this experience, and the ways in which they cope with it. Previous research has demonstrated that abortion is often subject to judgment due to individual, cultural, and societal dynamics, and that this context of judgment tends to render post-abortion grief invisible. Accordingly, this study examines the experiences of women who have undergone abortion through the lens of the disenfranchised grief model. The research data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with six participants (n = 6). Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was employed as the research design. Data analysis yielded a total of five superordinate themes and eighteen subordinate themes. The superordinate themes were identified as: (i) Perceptions of Threat Across Different Contexts, (ii) Under the Influence of Judgment, (iii) Ways of Regulating the Relationship with the Loss, (iv) Experience of Loss, and (v) Grief as a Transformative Experience. The findings were discussed in relation to the existing literature.
