Die Defizithypothese von Bernstein und die sprachliche Verschiedenheit der türkischen Kinder in der Sekundarstufe der Unter- und Mittelschicht in Deutschland

Abstract

The present study aims to explain and discuss the linguistic differences of Turkish 4th or 5th grade elementary children living in Germany according to Basil Bernstein's Deficit Hypothesis.In the first section, language, the relationship between language and culture, sociolinguistics, the scientific development of sociolinguistics and the subfields of linguistics are presented in a theoretical framework.In accordance with the issue of migration from Turkey to Germany, such concepts as "integration", "assimilation", and "foreignness as deficit" are investigated in detail. Deficit Hypothesis is explained in detail by discussing the dimensions of language and its functions.In the second section, the method used in the survey study is explained and the status of the participants is mentioned. The results of the questionnaires are presented in tables and they are evaluated. The summary of the study and its interpretations are presented. The study ends with practical recommendations.
