This study aims at investigating the development in English reading skill of students who started the English Preparatory Program at beginner level and continued for a year at TOBB University of Economics and Technology in relation to grammar by using Item Response Theory (IRT) and Latent Growth Modeling (LGM). For this purpose, the students growth trajectory in reading, the effect of grammar readiness level determined by a placement test on the growth trajectory, the effect of the growth trajectory s pattern on overall English and grammar measured by TOEFL-ITP as sequelae.234 students who started the English Preparatory Program at beginner level and continued for a year at TOBB University of Economics and Technology comprised the study group of this study. The data of 151 out of 234 students who were able to take the TOEFL-ITP test at the end of the year was used to assess the effect of the growth trajectory on its sequelae.
