Türkmen Diyalektolojisi: Aşkabat Şehir Ağzı

Abstract

Until the period of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, there were not many dialectological studies of the Turkmen language, which belongs to the Oghuz group of the Turkic languages. Thanks to the opportunities available in the USSR period, many remarkable studies have been carried out Turkmen language and dialectology. Various fieldwork were organized, especially for dialectology studies and the materials collected were the subject of the studies, thanks to the languages and literature institutes. There are no active studies on dialectology of Turkmen language for the last 20 years. In addition to the dialectology studies carried out, this study aims to investigate the dialectology of Turkmen language in topics of diglossia, language contact and code copying. In this study, texts were compiled through an interview by going to Ashgabat city of Turkmenistan. The compiled texts have been transcribed. This texts have been examined under the topics of diglossia, language contact and code copying. The standard language of Turkmen is based on the Teke dialect of Ahal province, that is, Ashgabad speech. The striking situation in the compiled texts is the high level of phonological differences between the written and the spoken languages. In this study these differences are tried to be shown in a section. There are also examples of code copying in the compiled texts. Regarding the subject, code copying was evaluated according to Lars Johanson’s code copying model.
