The universe is constantly changing, and this change has been accelerating in recent
years, especially with the effect of technological developments. The rapid change of the
universe also affects the desired design outputs from acoustic spaces, and many acoustic
spaces designed now host multiple functions. Each of these functions has different
acoustic conditions, and the creation of the design according to these different conditions
determines the acoustic success of the space. The fact that these variables are not taken
into account in multifunctional acoustic space designs today causes auditory comfort
problems in acoustic spaces that host different functions.
This thesis study focuses on " changeable acoustic design" which offers dynamic solutions
to changeable acoustic conditions of different functions in the same volume. In the study,
it is aimed to reveal the acoustic conditions varying according to the function and the
changeable acoustic design approaches developed in order to meet these conditions in
acoustic spaces designed for more than one function, by considering the acoustic design
parameter that it depends on within the framework of changeable acoustic design.
Within the scope of the study, firstly, the building elements that can change in the
context of " changeable concept" have been determined and the changeable acoustic
design approaches that can be created with the help of these elements have been
introduced by literature review. Then, changeable electro acoustic systems that can be
created with technical support are explained and system examples are investigated. In all
these studies, the purpose, limits and design parameters of the changeable acoustic
design are adhered to, and the changeable acoustic design approaches and the
possibilities offered by each approach are explained. Afterwards, examinations were
carried out using the space analysis method over sample projects that applied different
changeable acoustic design approaches. Thus, it is aimed to consider these variables in
the early design phase and to increase the success of acoustic design by including them in
the process.
As a result of the study, it has been revealed that the determination and implementation
of the changeable acoustic designs and approaches of the spaces designed to serve
different functions are determinant in terms of the acoustic performance of each of the
functions that will take place in these spaces.
