Abstract
Writing has been regarded as an important skill in language learning and teaching as it helps to reinforce and improve elements like vocabulary, grammar and critical thinking skills. The development of this skill is predominantly under the influence of the pursued syllabus, books and supplementary materials that are used. With a well-prepared syllabus, the writing lesson can be made more effective and students can be provided with the contributions they need. Selected textbooks are used as the main material while teaching writing skills in in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language courses and it has been discovered that writing skills are not sufficiently included in these books. Therefore, these textbooks cannot provide the necessary support for our students. In this study, in order to compensate for the deficit in question, a syllabus and a well-developed material file for advanced writing lessons have been created. The emergence of authentic and suitable material need for Turkish as a Foreign Language courses is the basis of this study. In other words, the need for advanced writing skills textbook was the beginning of this study. In order to create the content of the proposed syllabus, opinions of both teachers and students who participated in this course were asked through a survey. Therefore, what is needed to develop writing skills at B2 / C1 level is determined by the surveys conducted in this study. The data obtained from these surveys were analyzed with SPSS 25. Upon reaching valuable data, these data were used to create the proposed syllabus for the advanced writing skills course. New steps were taken regarding material development, creating syllabus and writing textbook with the help of this study as a material file has been developed based on the results of the teacher/student surveys conducted in this study and new ideas have been developed. Studies like these should be improved and detailed. In this way, we can contribute positively to the development of students' writing skills. We should not forget that the path to become a good language user in the target language is to improve writing skills.
