The ability of detection of frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar has strategic importance for electronic warfare systems. In order to have this ability, an original method, based on hidden Markov models (HMM), has been developed in this thesis. This method is composed of learning and decoding layers. In learning layer, Baum-Welch algorithm, based on expectationmaximization approach, is used. On the other hand, Viterbi algorithm is used in decoding layer. In addition, it is shown that the proposed method can run with required inputs by developing FMCW emitter simulator in Matlab environment. Also, the results are supported with computer simulations. The developed method can be used for receivers in electronic warfare systems. The performance of LPI emitter detection for electronic warfare systems can be improved.
