The aim of the study was to compare the family functioning levels of the families of children with different types of disabilities and normal development under the moderation of emotion regulation difficulty. The participants of the study consisted of 181 individuals with mental disability 31, autism spectrum disorder 29, language and speech difficulty 31, physical disability 29 and families of 60 individuals with normal development.There are 180 participants in total. Family Information Form, Family Assessment Scale and Emotion Regulation Difficulty Scale were applied to the participants of the study. Firstly, the relationship between the descriptive variables and the variables of the study was revealed. Then, one-way analysis of variance was applied to reveal the relationship between the special needs type and family functionality. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there is no relationship between the special needs type and family functioning but there is a significant relationship between family needs and having special needs and normal development. In the last analysis, multiple linear hierarchical moderator effect analysis was applied to determine the interactive role of emotion regulation on family functioning of having children with special needs. According to the results of the study, as the duration of special education increases, emotional response scores decrease, the presence of other individuals with special needs in the family increases the difficulty in regulating emotions. As the age of the parents increases, the difficulty of emotion regulation decreases. Moderator is a moderator on family functioning of families of children with special needs and normal development who have difficulty in regulating emotions.
