Job sharing among healthcare professionals involved in the delivery of health care; It reveals that the work performed cannot be carried out by only one professional group and that health institutions consist of an interdisciplinary structure. This situation shows that health institutions depend on teamwork in order to carry out their activities. Social loafing, known as individual’s withdrawal from doing work and avoiding taking part in group work, is seen as one of the factors that negatively affects the performance of individuals in teamwork and harms team output. The services provided in health institutions have a characteristic that touches human life. For this reason, social loafing is thought to be an issue that needs to be handled carefully. Based on this, the main purpose of this study is to handle social loafing behavior in terms of healthcare professionals and to reveal the importance of social loafing in health institutions. In addition, job satisfaction and organizational commitment in health institutions are expected to have an impact on the social loafing. To this end the mediating role of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in the relation between individual's social loafing and work mates’ social loafing was investigated in this study. The questionnaire forms used as a data collection tool in the research were distributed to the healthcare workers working in a public hospital in Ankara through face-to-face interview method and the data obtained from 336 healthcare workers were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 using. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the work mates’ social loafing and individual's social loafing differ according to the individual and demographic characteristics (gender, age, income, job, education) (p<0.05). Through the hierarchical regression analysis used in determining the mediating effect, it was concluded that the work mates’ social loafing had a significant and positive effect on the individual's social loafing and that job satisfaction in the relationship between the two variables had a partial mediating effect. However, it has been determined that organizational commitment does not mediate the relationship between the work mates’ social loafing and individual's social loafing. The most important suggestion to be brought in this context is to reduce social loafing behaviors by increasing the job satisfaction levels of employees.
