Abstract
Sociolinguistic based research has been increasing in the literature. In this thesis, the concept of bilingualism, which is one of the prominent topics of sociolinguistic studies, is analyzed in a sociolinguistic framework regarding phonological, morphological, semantical, and syntactic features by focusing on Alanya, and through the speaking Turkish as the target language of the late bilingual Germans living in Alanya. For this reason, the first aim of the thesis is to show the phonological, morphological, semantical and syntactic deviations of the participants from Turkish while speaking Turkish, and to reveal the effects of cultural awareness and readiness on their language acquisition and learning while detecting them. The study covers only adult Turkish speaking Germans living in Alanya. Since all the participants are female, except for one male participant, gender is excluded. Likewise, because of the variety of the states where participants come from, the dialect characteristics of the states are not included, and standard German is taken as a basis. In this study, various research methods including semi-structured interview, observation, and content analysis are applied. The semi-structured interview was carried out in the form of taking notes after the written questions prepared beforehand were asked verbally to the participant, and the answers were recorded with a tape recorder. The observation method is chosen to provide data to the section on approaches and attitudes towards Turkish. In the study, qualitative research data obtained through observation and interviews are analyzed by using content analysis. Based on the analyses and evaluations, it is concluded that the participants, mostly originating from the mother tongue, deviated from Turkish phonological, morphological, semantical, and syntactic. Furthermore, it is detected that participants coming through voluntary immigration approached Turkish and Turkish culture positively.
