Abstract
Computer games were first developed by engineers and software developers for more expe-rimental purposes during the development phase of of computer Technologies, and the fact that computer games were seen as entertainment tools over timehas led to the emergence of a sector in this direction. Over the years, both the technological developments and the chan-ging of the concept of entertainment, the computer games industry has grown and game studios have begun to be established. Computer games, which could be developed by a few people or even a single person in the early stages, have now become entertainment products for which many people have worked. Especially today, computer games include mainly vi-sual elements, sound, story and interaction. In this context, concept design has a fundamental importance in the creation of these visual elements. The fact that the game industry has re-ached a huge size over the years has caused the game contents and therefore the concept designs to lose their originality at some points in line with consumer demands, although there are unique examples. Starting from this subject, in the first part of this study, the con-tent, history and sub-disciplines of the concept design field are examined in detail with examples. Although the general research area of the study is the game industry, the place of concept design in other design branches is also examined in this section, since the concept design addresses more than one area in general terms. In the second part of the study, the role of concept design in the computer game creation process was analyzed. In addition, the subject of originality in concept design has been examined by considering the works and original projects of artists from different design branches in the field of concept design. It is an important issue how the original aspects of these studies and projects shed light on the game concept design. In the third chapter, concept design examples that have a vital effect on originality in com-puter games are examined under different categories and the effects of these examples on concept designs and products are mentioned. The examples in question sometimes gave life to cult plays, and sometimes they were considered as artistic products. In the fourth chapter, a game concept design application was made based on the Hittites theme, one of the Anatolian civilizations, based on the researches and examinations. The project has been handled in terms of theme, story and concept design and it is aimed to create an original concept design example.
