Abstract
This study was planned to examine the relationship between premenstrual symptoms and physical activity levels in Turkish women aged 18-40 years and to adapt the Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Questionnaire (PSSQ), which measures the severity of premenstrual symptoms, into Turkish, and investigate its validity and reliability. 150 reproductive age women with a mean age of 25.19 ± 5.92 years were included in the study The severity of the premenstrual symptoms of the individuals, the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PSS) and the level of physical activity were evaluated with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The reliability and validity of the PSSQ; internal consistency, test-retest, content and criterion validity analyzes were analyzed. There was no statistically significant difference betweenpremenstrual symptoms and physical activity groups (p>0.05). There was a negative and moderate statistically significant correlation between total MET values of IPAQ and PSS scores (r=-0.50, p<0.05). In the internal consistency analysis of the PSSQ, the Cronbach α coefficient was found to be 0.955 for all items. The smallest ICC (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient) value of all items of the PMSTA was 0.350, the largest ICC value was 0.935, and ICC=0.892 for the total score (p<0.05). In the validity analysis, PSS was used for criterion validity. As a result of the analyses, a very good positive (r=0.866) statistically significant (p<0.05) correlation was found between PSS total score and PSSQ scores. As a result, it was determined that PSSQ is a reliable and valid scale for evaluating premenstrual symptom severity in Turkish women and there is no difference between physical activity levels in terms of premenstrual symptoms in women.
