This article deals with a historical-literary evaluation of the Orient on the basis of the work by Kurban Said, written in German in 1938 and translated into Turkish in 2020, who wrote with this novel “Das Mädchen vom Goldenen Horn” a kind of literary treatise on the cultural conflict between the Orient and the Occident. The Orient is embodied by the protagonist Asiadeh, but begins in the Occident, in Berlin, and ends in the Orient or at least in the sensual longing for it. It follows that a controversy arises between the Occident (Berlin) and the Orient (Istanbul). The novel describes the cultural, oriental and feminine potential of Turkish society in the diaspora and accordingly defines its values. In addition, the historical and political events are explained and allow an explicit research of Kurban Said to emerge. The present contribution defines the literary standpoints on the Orient, Occident and Turkish culture and integrates them into the scientific Orient cycle. To make a comparison to the Modern, the work by Fatma Aydemir, written about 100 years later: Elbow, is added.
