Abstract
34 children diagnosed with organic acidemia were included in the study. 17 randomized children received a home program, while the other 17 were applied the CO-OP approach additionally through the videoconferencing method, twice a week for five weeks. Children were evaluated with the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) for occupational performance and satisfaction levels, with the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) for their functional status, with the Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP) for their social participation, with the Kid-KINDL Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children for quality of life, with the Assistance to Participate Scale (APS) for parental assistance to participation. In conclusion, improvements were observed in occupational performance and satisfaction levels (p=0.001), functional skills on the activities of daily living (p=0.001), participation (p=0.001), and quality of life (p=0.001) in the CO-OP group. In addition, a decrease was found in parental assistance to participation (p<0.05). In the control group, an increase was observed in occupational performance (p=0.011), caregiver-assisted total score (p=0.032), quality of life; family (p=0.025), school (p=0.034), total score (p=0.013), while there is no significant differences in children's occupational satisfaction, sub-parameters of functional skills, participation, sub-parameters of quality of life, and assistance to participation. In line with these findings, CO-OP is an approach that has positive effects on activities of daily living, quality of life and participation in children with organic acidemia. occupational therapy interventions in the treatment of children with organic acidemia and the inclusion of the CO-OP approach among these interventions are assessed to be beneficial.
