Abstract
In this study, which is called "The Use of Literary Texts in Textbooks for Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language", the place and effect of literary texts in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language are investigated. Literary texts, with their structure and shape features, reflect the most natural state of language. For this reason, it is not only possible to recognize the culture and way of life of a society directly through the texts in question, but also to see the natural structure of the language. Qualitative data analysis method was used in accordance with the scope of this study. Document analysis and interview from qualitative data analysis constitute the method of the study. For document analysis, the instruction sets that constitute the data source were examined. The teaching sets constitute the Yeni Hitit Turkish for Foreigners, Yedi İklim Turkish, İstanbul Turkish for Foreigners, Gazi Turkish for Foreigners. The data obtained from the textbooks, workbooks and CDs containing listening texts in these sets were subjected to content analysis. In the content analysis, various findings were reached by evaluating the types of literary texts in the teaching sets, their frequency of use and the levels they are included in. In the light of these findings, the data obtained from the teaching sets were digitized with tables and graphics. Another data collection technique used in the study is interview. Interviews were held with two groups; experienced lecturers at Hacettepe University in the field of Teaching Turkish to Foreigners and B2 and C1 level students learning Turkish as a foreign language at Hacettepe University. Different interview forms were developed for both sample groups. These interview forms were analyzed by content analysis and categories such as code, theme and frequency were determined. The data of both sample groups were transferred to tables and then evaluated comparatively with each other. Finally, the findings obtained from the teaching sets, lecturers and students were compared and comments were made. When the results of the research are examined, it is seen that the distribution of literary text types within the teaching sets is irregular, and it has been observed that this resource, which has an important effect on language teaching, such as literary text, is not sufficiently utilized while the teaching sets are being prepared. Lecturers and students also agree that there are many deficiencies regarding literary text types in the teaching sets. Based on all these, it is possible to say that the use of literary texts should be given importance to while preparing the teaching sets.
