Axonal elongation of neuronal cells is the most important subject considered in nerve tissue enginering. In this regard, cell guiding aligned nanofibers play an important role in directing of neurite outgrowth. In recent years, studies have been focused on different stimulating factors to promote neurite outgrowth.The main objective of this study is to fabricate aligned polyurethane nanofibers decorated with gold nanoparticles and investigate the synergistic effect of nanotopography, biological (Nerve Growth Factor, NGF) and electrical stimulation on neurite outgrowth of cultured cells (PC12 and B35). As a conclusion, NGF and electrical stimulation together with taking the advantage of gold nanoparticle decorated aligned nanofibers enhanced neurite outgrowth.
