Abstract
Johari Window model, which is a model used in communication and it deals with self-knowledge. In this model, there are two variance dimensions affecting the model, these are Self-Disclosure and Feedback. Four areas appear on the Johari Window based on the change occurs in these dimensions. These areas are called Open Area, Blind Area, Hidden Area and Unknown Area. Individuals self-knowledge improving their communication skills and in the healthcare organizations the skill of effective communication is a factor which provides harmony and cooperation in interpersonal relations. Therefore, these issues become important for healthcare administration. In this study, it is aimed at determining the effect of communication skills levels of managers, physicians and nurses on Self-Disclosure and Feedback levels by Johari Window model. Target population of the study consists of managers, physicians and nurses from 30 July 2015 to 18 September 2015 working in five training and research hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health in Ankara metropolitan area. The sample group of the study consists of 463 people determined from the research population according to the method of stratified sampling. According to the obtained results, the manager, the physicians and the nurses Open areas are expanding and Blind, Hidden and Unknown areas are decreasing. Additionally, the level of Feedback differs according to the status of the manager. However, the communication skills of the individuals participating in the research are middle and communication skills differed according to age, gender, education, occupation, management status and duration of working. When the level of communication skills of individuals is examined on the level of Self Disclosure and Feedback levels; Self-Disclosure was found to be affected by the dimensions of the communication skills Social Behavior, Harmony, Human Relations, Feedback was found to be affected by the dimensions of the communication skills Social Behavior, Individual Aspect in Communication, Sensitivity, Encouragement to Communicate Competence and Human Relationship.
