Abstract

The concept of "imaginary creatures," a surreal structure created by human memory, has had an important place in art since ancient times. Here, in the first part of this report, titled "The Interpretations of Imaginary Creatures in Contemporary Ceramic Art," which aims to reflect the creatures of my childhood dreams in ceramic forms, there are subheadings of imagination, historically imaginary creatures, their origins, and the reasons that lead artists to work on imaginary creatures, and surreal studies in this direction. The works of the artists who have done such things have been researched. Furthermore, in the study, the concept of subconscious and fear were examined; then, it was investigated how some schizophrenic patients, who are engaged in art, included imaginary beings in their artworks, which may have an important place in either their lives or in their works. Then, some examples are given from the works of artists who first made imaginary creatures and creatures in their works of art, and then artists who made imaginary creatures in the art of ceramics. At the end of the report, individual styles of the creatures and prominent characters formed in our childhood dreams and the methods used in the production stages are explained and presented to the audience in detail.
