Abstract
Tatlı İ.Y., Examination of Temporal Activity Pattern in Stroke Patients, Hacettepe University Institute of Health Science Occupational Therapy Program Master Thesis, Ankara, 2016. To support healing process of people with stroke, occupational therapists need to more understand of occupational experiences and for this they need to examine their daily routine. The study was planned to investigate temporal activity pattern of stroke patients who live in central districts of Konya city and are volunteer to participate to this study. Fifty individuals who had stroke and 50 healthy individuals who are in the family of stroke patients and has no responsibility of caregiving were included to the study. To compare temporal activity pattern, stroke patients and healthy individuals were divided into two groups. Informed consent form was taken from all participants and socio demographic information were examined. In evaluation phase, person’s activities which done yesterday were evaluated with Modified Occupational Questionnaire. Activities were categorized in according to activity domains of American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). After assessment, groups were compared in terms of doing activities, repetition counts, doing reasons, value for participations and value for community according to participations. It was founded that no stroke patients do an activity of play and education. Rest and sleep was the most repeated activity domain in stroke patients and significant differences were found as statistically (p<0,05). When reasons of doing the activity were examined in terms of “obligation”, significant differences were found as statistically in daily life and rest sleep activity domains in favor of patient group, and when reasons of doing the activity were examined in terms of “willing”, significant differences were found in favor of control group in all activity domains (p<0,05). When activities were examined between groups in terms of value for participant and for community in according to participant, significant differences were found statistically in daily life, instrumental daily life, rest and sleep, leisure and social participation in favor of control group (p<0,05). When compared with healthy individuals, it was founded that temporal activity pattern of stroke patients has damaged. Based on significant findings in results, occupational therapy interventions need support from perspective of temporal adaptation.
