Abstract
This study was carried out by taking as an example the opinions and recommendations of family counselors working in affiliated centers of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, in Ankara, Turkey. The purpose of this research is to investigate the opinions and recommendations of family counselors’ about this field The intention of that study is to investigate professional competencies, the trainings and the courses they have taken, their professional qualifications, the problems they have encountered, the problems of the clients and the techniques they have developed for such problems and thus their recommendations in the context of their expertise. The study was a quantitative study and structured with the survey model, by applying snow ball sampling method through the communication with family consultants in Ankara and Izmir, Istanbul, Konya and Adana. A pilot study was conducted with 5 volunteer family counselors who professionally conducted Family Counseling in order to determine their validity and function of the questionnaire. In this process, survey questions were revised considering the proposals of professional counselors. The interview forms were filled by the researcher herself for about 15-20 minutes via face-to-face interview based on the volunteer principle. Then the data were entered into the SPSS (23.0) (Statistical Package for Social Science) program and statistical analyzes were carried out in this program. Open-ended questions were merged into the top categories via Microsoft Excel and percentages of these categories in the sample were reported. As a result of the research, it is suggested that the experts working in the field of family counseling should improve the content of the training in this field, they should be well monitored by the supervisors during the training, the trainings should be comprehensive and the number of supervision hours should increase, awareness raising activities for society should be carried out and family counseling in case of marriage and divorce should be compulsory.
