Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to assess and compare body composition, exercise capacity and nutrition status of patients with and without heart failure (HF). The study population consist of 33 HF patients (62,7±9,7 years) and 33 coronary artery patients without HF (62,9±6,3 years). Dietary habits and various anthropometric measurements of the participants were evaluated and nutritional status was assessed and physical activity levels were determined according to the MET score. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS program. According to the 3-day food consumption record from individuals; the intake of energy, fat, carbohydrate, iron, zinc, and thiamin is lower in participants with HF. In addition, participants with HF had a significantly lower level of meeting energy, protein, thiamine and zinc requirements (p<0,05). According to body fat percentage, more than half of the individuals are in the class considered "unhealthy" (HF: 81,8%, without HF: 63,6%; p>0,05). It was also found that participants with HF had lower grip strength and higher body fat percentage. Nutritional status of participants with HF determined by Controlling Nutritional Status Index (CONUT) and with the increase in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class higher CONUT scores has been found. While 69,7% of the participants with HF have MET score between 0-4, none of the participants with HF has MET score higher than 10. Participants with regular physical activity was low in both groups (with HF:24,2%; without HF 36,4%). In this study; when evaluating the nutritional status of HF patients, it was concluded that the body composition should be utilized and that regular physical activity should be offered in addition to adequate nutrition when the increased fat mass is taken into consideration.
