Abstract
This study is an analytical review of musical and technical aspects of the use of oboe in Muammer Sun's orchestra and chamber music works. Muammer Sun, one of the third-generation composers of the Republican Period, known locally and abroad with his works. The orchestra music, chamber music, instrumental music, dance music, folk music arrangements, film music, children songs, marches, ballet music, band works, composing of contemporary Turkish culture products that take its source from our traditional culture and benefit from universal values and spreading to the surface of the country and mainly contributing to reaching the contemporary Turkish culture and art to the living conditions, Each piece of music has its own unique form whether it's children songs, youth marches, orchestral works, each piece has created a form that fits its own music. Although he wrote some compositions in tonal system, most of Muammer Sun's work composed in the form of quadral-harmony which systemised by famous Turkish music theorist Kemal İlerici. The composer, who stated that he tried to find new melodies in Turkish music makams. He mainly uses Turkish music rhythms in his pieces as well. Sun's music is easily perceived, adopted and loved, and prone to spread quickly. The composer, who prefer to use a lot of oboe in his works, used the oboe in solo, in chamber music and in orchestra works very effectively. The actual use of the oboe is a solo instrument but also can play with other groups in some situations thus enrich the sound colour of other instruments. Even be used as short accompaniment figures where it’s necessary. Oboe can sound very fast passages in the hands of his master with an impressive, joyful expression although the possibilities are technically limited. The musical and technical use of oboe in orchestra and chamber music works of composer were examined with examples, individual interviews were made with very himself and opinions of the related artists were taken in this work.
