SAMANCI AYDIN, Menekşe. Art for Eating, Eatng for Art, Thesis of Proficiency in Art, Ankara, 2019 Nutrition is the main requirement of alives. Nutritional action different from other needs, it can usually means one living being's survival while the end of another. Thus it turns to a life and dead struggle. However, along with the socialization of humans, nutrition becomes a biological necessity as well as social objects. Various actions around this objects, such as rituals, cutlery, auxiliary objects, kitchen, pantry, restaurant, etc… are organized in the social life and lead to new societies. In this sense, food / drinks and consuming them become a means of communication rather than a purely biological need. In other words, it turns to a social tool while it was a biological aim. At the same time, all these objects and actions, which are indicative of social status, have been the subject of art from the beginning. From the cave paintings to the present day, we come across all kinds of art in a wide range of subjects from hunting scenes, palace feasts, social inequality to high status indicators. In the context of this Thesis of Proficiency in Art, how food / drinks and their ways of acquiring and consuming are related to art has been examined through examples from the history of art, and this has been the basis for the interpretation of the art works produced within the scope of this thesis.
