SAMANCI AYDIN, Menekşe. Art for Eating, Eatng for Art, Thesis of Proficiency in Art, Ankara, 2019 Nutrition is the main requirement for living beings. Nutrition is different than other needs because it may mean one living being’s survival while the other’s end. Thus it turns a matter to life and dead. Yet, along with the socialization of human beings it turns to objects with a social meaning along with biological necessity. Around this objects, actions, rituals, aided objects such as knife, places sucah ass kitchen, storeroom, restaurant creates new social functions through organizing in social life. In this sense foods/drinks and their consumption are more than requirement, it is a communication. In other words it turns a social tool while it was a biological requirement. At the same time all these objects can be seen in a very broad subject of art from cave paintings to today hunting scenes, place feast, from social inequality to high statue signs. Within the context of this thesis the relation between foods/drinks, their obtaining process, their consumption types with art is analyzed through art historical examples. This analysis functions as a base in order to interpret art works created during the thesis.
