Literature contains the elements of the society that was created in. One of the most important items we can include these cultural elements without a doubt is food culture. Selim İleri’s works contain a lot of elements belong to food culture. In the different genres of literary outputs he wrote, the author has an important place on using the aspects of food culture and the environment. The author, especially in the series called İstanbul Kitaplığı, İstanbul Yalnızlığı, İstanbul İlk Romanımda Leylak, İstanbul Seni Unutmadım, İstanbul Hatıralar Kolonyası, İstanbul Lale ile Sümbül, İstanbul’un Sandık Odası, İstanbul Mayısta Bir Akşamdı, İstanbul’un Tramvayları Dan Dan!, Yaşadığım İstanbul, İstanbul Bu Gece Yine Sensiz, and the one consists of food stories Oburcuk Mutfakta tells the İstanbul of his childhood, youth and adulthood. The author often mentions the city’s eating habits, eating places, the role of eating in the house. The author’s narratives he frames as food culture appears in his fiction as well. In this study, the food culture elements mentioned in the novels, stories, essays, memories and theatre scripts that Selim İleri wrote between 1968-2018 were researched thematically.
