Abstract
In the thesis study, eleven Domestic Goods Exhibitions which were conducted under the leadership of National Economy and Savings Society between 1929 and 1939 were examined. The exhibitions were held in İstanbul Galatasaray High School except for one. In the first chapter, the historical scope of the concept of Domestic Products Exhibition was examined in order to understand its development. The study started with the industrialization movement, which started in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, started with the participation of international exhibitions and the emergence of the concept of domestic goods. It has been investigated in historical context, how the process began with the Ottoman modernization, developed with before and after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, in connection with the solution of the problems of the economy, Developments emerged in line with the data of 1921 industrial censuses, Izmir Economic Congress, the establishment of the National Economy and Savings Society are given. In the second chapter Domestic Products Exhibitions which took place in Istanbul Galatasaray High School are listed. Differentiating elements are highlighted in each exhibition organization. The Cumhuriyet newspaper periodicals were scanned for exhibition articles of the term. The third chapter of the thesis is devoted to the artists in the Domestic Products Exhibitions. It was observed that there was no concern in planning the exhibitions but due to the interest to the exhibitions, the steps were taken concerning the exhibition planning. It is seen that the prominent graphic artist, sculptor, architect of the period, have designed exhibition, pavilion and special poster designs were made for the announcement of the exhibition. In this chapter, some names who have developed designs for exhibitions have been examined. In the forth chapter, the concept of domestic products is evaluated together with exhibition and promotion of consumption with an example from today. In the concluding chapter, the prominent features, similarities and differences of the “Domestic Products” exhibitions held between 1929-1939 are compiled.
