Abstract
Study aims to compare the family functions perceived by students s attending to seventh and eighth grade at secondary schools and their mothers in the city center of Ankara and examine the impact on children's life satisfaction. It was investigated whether there are any differences between children's gender, birth order, parental education level and life satisfactions, whether there is any difference between family functions percieved by the child and life satisfactions, whether the family functions perceived by the child foreseeing the child’s life satisfactions and whether are there any differences between the family functions perceived by the mother and child. The sample of the research consist of 584 children studying twelve secondary schools depends on Ministry of National Education in Çankaya, Yenimahalle, Pursaklar, Mamak districts in Ankara city center and teir mothers. In order to measure children's life satisfaction Multidimensional Students' Life Satisfaction Scale, to measure the family functions percieved by children and mothers Family Assessment Scale and in addition, to obtain demographic data of children and their families Family Information Form, developed by researcher, were used. Students' Life Satisfaction Scale and Family Assessment Scale. Multidimensional Students Life Satisfaction Scale and Family Assessment Scale were been applied to children who were included in the sample by researcher. In testing homogeneity of the distribution Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test was used. In the analysis of data obtained; related and unrelated t test, analysis of unrelated one-way variance and analysis of stepwise multiple regression were used. As a result of study, The difference between family functions perceived by children and family functions perceived by the mothers was found. Family functions perceived by children were higher than family functions perceived by mothers. There was no significant difference in the subscale needed interest. It was found there was no significant difference between children's gender, birth order and life satisfaction. A significant difference was found between maternal education and children's school satisfaction and self-fulfillment. A significant difference was found between the children's school satisfaction and father's education status. In regression analyzes, it was found that general function, problem solving, showing needed interest subscales foresaw the %42,1 of the overall life satisfaction.
