In this thesis it is explained and shown through sample texts what note taking techniques are and how they need to be applied especially in the Turkish and German language pair. As it is not possible to learn the Turkish- German interpretation profession in Germany, the universities in Turkey are very important in delivering the education of the new generation in this field. The aim of this study is to develop a guide to note-taking techniques. The focus of the thesis is on the teaching and application of note-taking techniques in consecutive interpretation. In the introduction part of the thesis, after a historical perspective on the translation profession, expectations from the interpreter and professional requirements will be evaluated. Furthermore it will be explained how the interpreter who will take part in business life should be prepared professionally. In the second part of the thesis, theoretical approaches and basic principles regarding note taking in consecutive interpretation will be presented. In the main section, many examples will be shown so as to introduce the note-taking methods. The method will be introduced by applying note-taking techniques on speech texts in both languages in the tables in the last part of the thesis.
