Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the acute effects of lumbosacral mobilization on balance, gait and functional activities in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's. 28 Parkinson's disease patients who were between stage 2-3 according to the Modified Hoehn&Yahr Staging Scale were included in the study. Individuals were divided into two groups as control and study groups. Disease severity, treatment complications, and daily living activities were evaluated by using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), and functional activity levels were evaluated by using the Modified Parkinson Activity Scale (MPAS), balance and gait were evaluated by using Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) and static posturography tests. After 1 week, 10-15 minutes of lumbosacral mobilization was applied to the study group, while the evaluations were repeated without no interventions to the control group. At the end of the study, it was improving observed that the UPDRS, MPAS and DGI values of the study group, as well as some LOS parameters from the static posturography measurements and the composite score with the soft ground eyes open condition in the mCTSIB (p<0,05). In the control group, although there was no change in clinical measurements, some static posturography values were found to be improved (p<0,05). When the groups were compared, it was seen that the study group showed more improvement in terms of the DGI and MPAS results (p<0,05). When the static posturography results were compared, it was found that there was no difference between the groups (p> 0,05). In this study, which is the first study investigating the acute effect of lumbosacral mobilization on balance, gait and functional activities in Parkinson's patients, it was thought that lumbosacral mobilization improved balance, gait and functional activities by regulating muscle tone and reducing axial symptoms. It has been shown that lumbosacral mobilization can be an applicable method to improve balance, gait and functional activities in Parkinson's patients.
