Abstract
This cross-sectional study aims to reveal the effect of altruistic behaviour perceptions of physicians and nurses on their burnout levels and whether their perceptions of altruistic behaviour and assessments of their burnout levels differ in accordance with their sociodemographic characteristics. In this context, the research population consists of a university hospital and a private hospital serving in Azerbaijan. As of June 2021, the date research was conducted, a total of 833 physicians and nurses were working in two hospitals, and the data obtained through face-to-face interviews from 295 physicians and nurses included in the sample according to the selected sample were included in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference in the perceptions of the altruistic behaviours of the physicians and nurses participating in the research according to their gender, hospital ownership, occupation, level of education, working unit, income status and reasons for altruistic behaviour and that there is a statistically significant difference in their burnout levels according to hospital ownership, marital status, level of education, working unit, working time, income status, reasons for helping others, and reasons for altruistic behaviour. In addition, it was determined that the sub-dimensions of altruistic behaviours of physicians and nurses had a statistically significant effect on the sub-dimensions of burnout, emotional exhaustion, desensitisation, and lack of personal achievement.
