Abstract
Creative coding or artistic creation with an intermediary program attracts attention in the field of graphic design as well as in every field of design today, and studies in the field continue rapidly with the emergence of new software that supports this method. On the other hand, the question of how creative coding is done and how this method contributes to the design process for us graphic designers is a subject worth answering. The subject of this thesis is to investigate the use of programming language in the field of auto-generative design applications together with the act of coding. The aim of this thesis, named “The Use of Creative Coding Technique in Auto Generative Designs and an Application” is to create a basic resource for graphic designers, both technically and artistically, on the use of creative coding technique in the field of auto generative art. It is aimed to explain the possibilities offered by the system, starting from the basic design principles to graphic designers who are unfamiliar with the coding language, and to explain the design processes with examples. It should be noted that creative coding is only one method in this research. One of the aims of this thesis is to examine the examples of auto generative art created with analog methods that existed before the digital age and to reveal the design criteria for the "aesthetic" context of auto generative art throughout the design process. In the first part of the study, pre-digital sources of coding activity were determined, and the process until the point where it met with graphic design was examined within the framework of design concepts. In the second part, the reflections of creative coding in the field of design are examined in the light of new topics revealed by the research, and its applications in autogenerative designs are discussed in detail, including technical processes and software. In the third part of the thesis, the basics of the creative coding method are explained, current examples in the field of graphic design are discussed and explained in the context of the advantages offered by the creative coding technique. In the fourth part, an application was made with the creative coding technique within the framework of what was learned during the process.
