Abstract
The main purpose of the study is to determine the relationship between teachers’ psychological contractviolation, work alienation and counterproductive work behaviour. In this study, the quantitative research method was used. The population of the research consists of 2829 teachers working in public secondary schools and in private secondary schools in thedistricts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus according to the stratified sampling method. The sample sizes of the layers to be formed from the universe were determined by random sampling. According to the sample, it was aimed to reach 431 teachers. A total of 476 teachers were reached as a result of the data collection process. In the research, “Psychological Contract Violation Scale” developed by Robinson and Morrison (1995), adapted into Turkish by Oğul Selekler (2007); “Work Alienation Scale” developed by Elma (2003); and “Counterproductive Work Behaviours Scale” developed by Spector et al. (2006), and adapted to Turkish culture by Öcel (2010) were applied. In the study, Bootstap method from mediation analysis was applied to examine the mediationg role of school type on three main variables. The obtained data were analysed with “SPSS and Jasp package programs. As a result of the research, it was determined that teachers’ perceptions of psychological contract violation and job alienation levels were low. It was found that teachers’ perceptions of psychological contract violation and their level of work alienation did not differ according to the variables of gender and educational status. It has been determined that there is a significant difference according to the variables of school type, seniority and working time at school. In addition, it was found that teachers had low levels of counterproductive work behavior; it was concluded that there was significant difference according to the variables of gender, but not according to the variables of seniority, education status and working time at school. As a result of the mediation analysis performed, it was found that the psychological contract had a significant and positive effect on work alienation, but did not have a significant effect on counterproductive work behaviors; school type was not found to be significant mediator variable.
