The theory of public choice suggests that all actors involved in the political process aim to behave rationally and maximize their own interests. However, in reality, political and economic agents often make irrational choices and preferences. Behavioral political economy, which emerged from the combination of economics and psychology, is a discipline that aims to include the highlighted irrational tendencies into the decision-making mechanism. The main goal of this thesis is to deeply examine a scientific approach that aims to reflect the real world by focusing on the impact of mental biases that arise in the political process on voter decisions and elections, through the lens of behavioral political economy.
