In order to understand the foundations of primary school mathematics education in the Republic of Turkey, it is necessary to analyze the entry of modern education and modern education tools into the Ottoman Empire, how the administration's perspective on education changed in this process, the conditions of the period when the Republic of Turkey was founded, and the founders' perspective on education. In the qualitative research in your hand, Güzel Hesab, İlm-i Hesab and Yeni Usul Resimli Hesab Ders Kitapları, which are math textbooks used in the first years of the Republic of Turkey, were analyzed according to the content and principles of mathematics education, and our findings were compared with the Report of the Commission for the Study of Primary School Books. As a result of the findings we have, the teaching methods of the textbooks written by different authors are similar, traditional education methods have started to be preferred to modern methods, but memorization is still not abandoned, applied activities are encouraged, the visuals used in the textbooks are inadequate for some subjects, they are successful in terms of mathematics principles, and the simplest subjects and it has been seen that the examples are considered in detail at each class level and they are insufficient in terms of usage purposes.
