Nowadays, due to technological advancements, the variety of materials employed in
teaching foreign languages has expanded. The utilized materials simplify the process of
teaching and learning a language. Graphics Interchange Formats (GIF) assist instructors
in situations where it's not feasible to physically demonstrate objects in the classroom.
These easily accessible materials allow for quick explanations of situations, emotions,
and actions. It has been observed that no research has been conducted to assess the
effectiveness and importance of using GIFs in teaching Turkish verbs as a foreign
language. Our aim is to contribute towards addressing this research gap.
In the first part of our study, three language sets used in teaching Turkish as a foreign
language were examined using the content analysis method. The frequency levels of the
verbs were analysed, and the first 200 verbs were listed. Subsequently, this list was
compared with the top 100 verb lists in English, French, and German, as well as the top
100 verb lists we generated based on frequency studies for Turkish. Following these
comparisons, a list of the top 100 verbs in Turkish was established.
In the second part of our study, information about GIFs was provided, and verb teaching
activities were incorporated using these GIFs.
