The purpose of this study was to develop a desktop/mobile-based application that will enable students to reduce the level of test anxiety they experience by themselves and by playing games using cognitive behavioral therapy and gamification techniques and to examine the effectiveness of this application. The study also intended to develop Test Related Negative Cognitions Scale to measure students' negative cognitions related exams. Exploratory sequential mixed method was used in the study. Quantitative pre-test-post-test control group experimental design and qualitative phenomenology design were adopted. Quantitative data were collected from 68 senior high school students and qualitative data were collected through interviews with 10 students who used the application. Personal information form, Test Anxiety Inventory, Test Related Negative Cognitions Scale and a semi-structured interview form developed within the scope of this study were used to collect the study data. The findings of the CFA revealed that most fit indices of the CWLSS factor structure model were excellent; WLSMV χ2(86, N = 466) = 361.81, p < .001, CFI = .98, TLI = .97, RMSEA = .08 (90% CI [.08, .09]), SRMR = .04. The findings of the quantitative data showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the students in the experimental and control groups on the TAI [F(1,35) = 18,804, p < .001, η2 = .30] and the TRNCS [F(1,35) = 16,780, p <.001, η2 = .28]. Findings from qualitative interviews revealed that students' opinions about the effectiveness of the mobile application were positive. Desktop/mobile-based application was effective in significantly reducing students' test anxiety and negative cognitions related to tests.
