Sosyal Medyada Beğenilmeme Korkusunun Kendini Mükemmeliyetçi Gösterme Eğilimi ve Narsisizm İle İlişkisi
Özet
The main aim of this study was to examine the relationships between fear of not being liked on social media, self-presentation perfectionism, and narcissism. The study was conducted using a correlational research design and utilizing convenience sampling. Participants of the study were 425 volunteering persons aged between 18 and 35. Data were collected using the Fear of Being Disliked on Social Media Scale, the Pathological Narcissism Inventory, and the Self-Presentation Perfectionism Scale. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Correlation Test, One-Way ANOVA, Independent Samples T-test, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The statistical tests revealed that the fear of not being liked on social media has significant relationships with both vulnerable and grandiose narcissism. Additionally, multiple regression analysis showed that grandiose narcissism significantly predicts the fear of not being liked on social media. However, vulnerable narcissism and self-presentation perfectionism do not significantly predict the fear of not being liked. No significant differences on the variables of the study were found according to gender. The means of the variables significantly differed according to the use of Photoshop on social media. Finally, increased social media usage time was significantly related to narcissistic tendencies. In conclusion, grandiose narcissism could be an important predictor of the fear of not being liked on social media. Furthermore, the findings were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature, and recommendations were made.
