Abstract
This study was planned to investigate the effect of client-centered leisure activities based occupational therapy intervention on individuals with chronic stroke on their social participation and quality of life. The study included 16 individuals who applied to the Occupational Department, Education and Research Units of Hacettepe University Faculty of Health Sciences at least 1 year ago. The Canadian Activity Performance Scale (COPM) was used for the selection of leisure activities that individuals prefer; Short Form 36 (MOS-SF-36) was used to determine the quality of life and for the determination of social participation levels The Participation Scale (PS) was used. In addition, face-to-face interviewing was used to determine general health perceptions, factors supporting and activity preferences. Dynamic Activity Analysis , Fugl Meyer Upper Extremity Scale, Trail Making Test A and B, Clock Drawing Test, Beck Depression and Anxiety Scales were used to determine the sources of restriction after the preferred activities were identified. By identifying the problematic areas, individuallizied occupational therapy intervention was planned for each individual for 2 sessions per week for 8 weeks. After the intervention, there was a statistically significant difference between the COPM, PS and SF-36 measurements of the individuals (p<0.05). After the intervention, it was seen that physical, environmental and psycho-social skills of stroke individuals increased (p <0.05). Through occupational therapy interventions based on leisure activities, activity performance of stroke survivors has resulted in improved social participation and quality of life. By determining the factors affecting the performance of the activity through mixed methods, it is considered that occupational therapy interventions based on client-centered and holistic leisure activities planned for stroke survivors will increase the activity performance, social participation and quality of life.
