It is assumed that children identify themselves with the stories they listen. Depending on this, with this study it was aimed to find the factors which support or jeopardize psychological resilience within picture books in libraries of schools at risky areas due to socioeconomic status. In order to methodize the questions of the study, this study was planned according to phenomenology which is one of the qualitative research method. In order to search for and to categorise the dimensions of resilience; the roots of resilience and the factors to promote and jeopardize resilience were specified by reviewing literature. Correspondingly to the information in the literature, “Checklist for Examining Psychological Resilience in Children’s Picture Books” was prepared by the researchers and was used throughout the study. While the universe is composed of picture books in the libraries of preschool institutions in the low socioeconomic conditional districts of Ankara; the sample consists of 204 picture books in the library of three preschool institutions in three different low-socio-economic districts of Ankara. By examining the books via the help of the checklist, the indicators were recorded as “positive/not positive/not found” accompanied with explanations to the checklist. As being one of the kinds of content analysis, directed content analysis was utilised as analysis method. Depending on that, the results were presented via frequencies in descriptive manner and via direct quotations. According to inferences, the picture books in preschool institutions in low socioeconomic districts are not only insufficient to promote most dimensions of resilience, but also cover jeopardizing factors. Lastly, obtained indicators were discussed in the base of literature and within this context some forward-looking suggestions were presented.
